WHA is working in partnership with MetaStar to obtain some of the data in CheckPoint. MetaStar is a non-profit health care quality improvement organization (QIO) based in Madison, Wisconsin.

An independent, multidisciplinary body composed of insurers, employers, policymakers, consumer representatives and health care providers, called the Wisconsin Quality Initiative Steering Committee, guides the development of CheckPoint using the principles below.

The CheckPoint public information system will be:

• Collaborative – foster active participation by health care providers, payers, and consumers
• Consumer Centered – inform and educates consumers on decision-making in health care
• Protect Privacy – protect consumer privacy by reporting data at a hospital level
• Evidence-Based – encourage research-based practices by providers and consumers
• Incremental Development – evolve slowly focusing on areas of greatest impact
• Voluntary – voluntary and non-exclusive participation by providers, payers, and consumers
